Hire My Local Ready Helper

Is this for you?

Local Ready Helper is right for you if:

  • You've already found or matched with a domestic helper who is currently in Hong Kong
  • Your helper is changing to you as a new employer (transfer) and needs a new employment application processed
  • You just need the application handled — not help finding a candidate

Not the right fit if:

  • You haven't found a domestic helper yet
  • You're hiring a helper from overseas for the first time
  • You're keeping your CURRENT helper and just renewing their contract — that's Contract Renewal, not a new employment application

What's included in the HK$3,000 local direct hire service?

  • Preparation of the employer and helper application documents
  • New employment contract preparation for the change of employer
  • Contract signing arrangements with the employer and helper at our office
  • Submission of the employment application to Hong Kong Immigration
  • Application follow-up throughout the review process
  • Guidance for the helper on visa collection after approval
  • Follow-up for required contract authentication and MWO procedures, where applicable

How long does a local direct hire take in Hong Kong?

Processing time: typically 4-6 weeks from application submission to visa approval.

How does the local direct hire process work?

1. Submit Your Information

Provide the information and documents required for the employment application.

2. Sign the New Contract

HelperEx prepares the documents and arranges contract signing with the employer and helper.

3. Application Follow-up & Refund Protection

HelperEx submits the employment application and follows up throughout the review process. If the application is rejected due to an error in HelperEx's preparation or submission, we refund the HK$3,000 service fee. This does not apply to rejections caused by eligibility issues, incorrect or incomplete information provided by the employer or helper, or decisions made by the relevant authorities.

4. Visa collection & government fees

HelperEx works directly with your helper on the visa collection process — you won't need to go with her.

After approval, your helper will be able to collect the visa directly from Hong Kong Immigration. There will be additional government fees — contract authentication, the Immigration Department's work visa fee, and (where applicable) OWWA — totaling approximately HK$500–700, payable directly at the offices when collecting the documents. Not included in the HK$3,000 service fee. HelperEx does not guarantee Immigration approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 'local ready helper' or 'change of employer' application?+
This is when a domestic helper who is already in Hong Kong (with a valid visa or finishing contract) wants to start working for a new employer. It's also called a 'transfer' or 'change of employer'. The helper doesn't need to travel from overseas, which makes the process faster and simpler than an overseas new hire.
How long does the application take?+
Local Direct Hire typically takes 4-6 weeks from application submission to visa approval.
What if my helper's current contract is ending soon?+
If her contract is ending or has already ended, timing is critical. A helper whose contract has terminated has 14 days to find a new employer or leave Hong Kong. We recommend starting the application process as soon as you've agreed to hire her, ideally before her current contract ends.
What fees are NOT included in the HK$3,000 service fee?+
Government fees are separate: Immigration visa fee (HK$330), contract authentication, and consulate fees (HK$80-388 depending on nationality and whether OWWA renewal is due). Total government fees are typically HK$700-1,000. Insurance is also separate (HK$500-1,500/year).
Can I hire a helper who is currently working for someone else?+
Yes, but both the current employer and helper must agree to end the current contract first. The helper cannot work for two employers at the same time. Most transfers happen when a contract is finishing naturally (at the end of the 2-year term) or when both parties agree to early termination.
What if the Immigration application is rejected?+
Rejections are uncommon for straightforward local transfer cases. If rejection occurs due to an error in our application preparation, we refund the service fee. Rejections due to employer/helper ineligibility or incomplete information provided are not covered by this guarantee.
Do I still need to visit government offices?+
No. HelperEx handles all submissions and follows up with Immigration on your behalf. Your helper will need to collect the approved visa from Immigration after approval, but you do not need to accompany her — we provide her with guidance on the collection process.
